Health & Wellness baby steps

We all know we feel so much better when we look after our bodies with enough sleep, water, nutritious food and exercise.

I'm not sure why I fall off the bandwagon so often but I figure as long as I keep getting back on then I'm progressing and doing more than if I gave up full stop.

So I'm beginning with 2 baby steps towards improving my health:

1. Sleep 8 hours - I know some people can do well on less and some need more but 8 hours is about right for me when I'm in a good routine. Technically I could go to sleep at 11pm and get up at 7am but I'll be progressively trying to get to bed earlier and rise earlier over the next week or two.  I know it is much better for my wellbeing to switch it this way.  So, basically I'll just change my sleep time by half an hour every couple of days or so.  10.30pm bedtime/ 6.30am rise then 10.00pm bedtime/6.00am rise with the end goal being a 9.30pm bedtime/5.30am rise.  We'll see how it goes!

2. Drink 2 litres of water daily - There are a whole lot of formulas about how much to drink depending on body weight and activity levels but if I aim for this I know I will have had plenty.  I have a large 2 litre water bottle that I'll fill up in the morning and try to finish by the end of the day.  Normally in this adjustment period I'll have to wee every 30 seconds but hopefully my bladder will go stronger quickly. Ha ha.

I know I haven't added in exercise yet, but I want to get my sleeping organised first so that I'm ready to add it in at 6.00am.  Basically, I'll post again when I've successfully adjusted these baby steps.

Do you normally sleep enough each night and drink enough water throughout the day?

Back into it...

After our beautiful holiday to Port Douglas last week I have decided to set some new goals.  Nothing like a holiday to a tropical paradise to make you re-evaluate a few things.

1.  Blog more regularly - The boys love to look back at the fun times we've had and to be honest I love to have an outlet to express all of the different things swirling around my brain. I'm going to set a target of posting 3 times a week and see how that goes.

2.  Get my health and wellness back on track -  It's not terrible but it most certainly could be better.  My energy levels are still a little low and I haven't been going to the gym at all.  Goals to follow...

3.  Re-organise my home and budget - Again, it's not terrible but I just need to work on consistently keeping on top of everything.  I mean, really, it shouldn't be so hard with 4 boys and work should it?  Ha ha.  Goals to follow...

4.  Have more fun!  Hopefully taking the above into consideration it should leave more time and space for fun with Michael and the boys.  Goals to follow...

I feel like I'm starting at the very beginning with this but sometimes I guess that's just what's needed.  Just strip everything away and build up with what's most important.

Are you working on any goals at the moment?  Do you feel like you need to start fresh?

New Years Eve 2017

We had such a fun finish to the year!

We had some beautiful friends come and share in the fun as well...

Those lollies didn't last long at all with the kids grabbing them every 2 minutes...

These two are such great friends...

Jenn brought me beautiful flowers...

As it got dark the party lights came out and the music was turned up!

Good food, a few good drinks,  good music and most importantly good company...perfect evening...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  I'm so excited to see what it will bring!

The Color Run Night

After a morning spent completing Saturday jobs and housework Louis, Ethan and I jumped in the car and made our way down to Flemington to "The Color Run night".

I'm always nervous driving in the city but it really couldn't have been easier to get there.  We parked at the racecourse ($20 well spent in my opinion), pinned on our numbers and excitedly headed towards the festivities.  It began at 3.30pm but we got there around 5pm.

Of course, once we'd walked all the way in I realised I hadn't brought any cash for dinner so we trekked all the way back - it was a good warm up! Haha.

As it turned out we grabbed a free Atkins bar they were handing out (it was really gross), stopped at the port-a-loos (an experience for the boys) and watched the Zumba warm up (I must try out a class soon - looked like so much fun) before it was time to head to the starting line.

The atmosphere was fantastic, music playing and everything glowing and flashing. There were so many people that they were letting people start the run in waves which kept it really manageable.

Soon enough it was our turn and off we started!  I was trying to encourage the boys to jog a whole lot more than we did but they were having a great time so it didn't really matter.

It wasn't too long before we reached a colour and as we ran past we were squirted with the coloured UV powder.  They had black lights set up as well so that you could see that you were glowing.  Seriously, so. much. fun.

On we went, next through a foam machine which we weren't expecting.  Around the track and when we were notified we were half way the boys seemed quite disappointed that it wasn't going to last longer!

Even though we were walking/jogging around the in the dark it was well lit up and there were so many people and volunteers that it felt really safe.  Being an alcohol free event meant it was family friendly and that reflected in the runners there.

At the finish line the boys high-fived a big line of volunteers and then we were done.

They had some food vans set up so we went over to get some dinner.

After that we headed over to the stage where they were having colour throws! They had great music (the first Fox RnB Fridays color run) and dancers and it was LOUD!  Anyway, we stayed for two colour throws which were pretty intense...it's just a mix of cornflour etc but when you throw it all up in the air like that we had to put our t-shirt over our nose! Haha.

We were done by about 9pm...it was a big afternoon!  Luckily we only had to drive back to my Dad's house around 40 minutes or so to stay the night.

Of course we were all covered in colour so had to have quick showers but it all washed off easily enough.  We all slept well that's for sure.

I think I'll be back to take Dylan and Jayden next time...I think they would really love it.

Homegrown golf

Sunday I had to drop Louis and Jayden at the movies for a birthday party so the rest of us took a short drive out of town to capture Mt Buller on such a beautiful day...

Then we went home and had a hit of golf in the yard.  It was such a beautiful winters day I knew we had to do something outdoors.  Dad gave them a brief lesson and then they went for it.  We painted the golf balls pink so that we could hopefully find them easier but I think we still lost one or two. Haha.

We may not have any golf pro's on our hands but I can't think of a prettier place to play a bit of backyard golf! xoxo

Adventure Sunday: Mason Falls, Kinglake

A couple of weeks ago we had a great drive out to Kinglake to visit Masons Falls.  It was so nice to get out of the house.  Dylan and Jayden snoozed on the way which never happens! Too many late nights over the school holidays probably!

There is a beautiful picnic area at the car park and the walk itself is only about 500m so very easy for everyone.

We also took a short drive up to Mt Sugarloaf...

The view of Melbourne was amazing!

Then we stopped in at the playground at Kinglake which the kids just loved...

Me and my love at the falls...

Love our little trips...we have lots of complaining and boys stirring each other but then we are left with these beautiful memories...xoxo
